On Wednesday, the Gilgit-Baltistan administration (GB) announced that it will hire 4,000 teachers in six months to ensure there is no shortage of educators at the provincial public schools. The inaugural meeting of the Education Reforms Steering Committee was chaired by Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid. This committee was established to implement education reforms in GB to ensure equal educational opportunities for girls and boys.
The committee also decided to cancel all “attachments”, teachers working or employed in other departments and to allow them to return to their assigned posts as soon as possible. In a related development, Raja Muhammad Azam Khan (GB Education Minister) has announced that priority will be given to rebuilding natural disaster-affected schools in the province. During his visit to Hunza’s educational institutions, he made the announcement to reporters.
Minister Khan stated that more emphasis will be placed on the completion of existing education development projects by the end of June of this year. He visited schools to interact with teachers and school officials. He promised that he would solve the real problems teachers faced as a top priority.
