About the University
The foundation stone of Dawood College of Engineering & Technology was laid by President of Pakistan (Late) Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan in 1962. The college was established through the Dawood Foundation under the supervision of Seth Ahmed Dawood in 1964.
In March 2013, The Sindh Assembly passed the Sindh ACT No. XII, which elevated it into a university. The University’s administrative and academic control is now within the Syndicate, Senate and Academic Council following ACT. The Vice-Chancellor is the Principal Executive and Academic Officer of the University.
The University offers a four-year program of study in the area of engineering and five-year programs in the field of architecture.The Engineering departments comprise Electronics, chemicals, Industrial & Management and Metallurgy & Materials. In 2010-2011, the University launched four new departments Energy&Environment, Petroleum & Gas, Telecommunication, and Computer System Engineering.
Consistent of the significance of Quality Assurance, DUET has set up the Quality Enhancement Cell in November 2009 to establish quality improvement initiatives across every department and faculty that comprise DUET under the direction and supervision of the Higher Education Commission and Q.A.
Since DUET is located in the largest industrial city in Pakistan, various Engineering departments are directly involved in providing solutions/consultation to local industries. Students are given final year projects that include on-site instruction and internships within and outside Karachi under the supervision of experts from the field.
